STOCKPORT Council has launched a new campaign to recruit more foster carers. The Council’s Fostering team have clear evidence that shows looked after children are happier and thrive when they are placed within a loving, supportive family setting. The campaign includes billboard advertising on the A6 displaying an eyecatching advert aimed at attracting foster carers who have the skills to help a child thrive. Councillor Mark Weldon, Executive Member for Children & Young People, said: “The Council’s Fostering team are going from strength to strength but like all other local authorities, we still need to recruit more foster carers.

“We particularly need carers for children who are aged eight and above, as this age group are often overlooked. The role is rewarding, and even though there may be challenges, fostering can also be extremely enjoyable.” If you feel that you have the skills to help a child thrive and want to make a difference, or simply wish to get more information about what being a foster carer involves, contact the Council’s Fostering team on 0161 947 4646 or visit www.stockport.gov.uk/fostering Stockport Council holds regular monthly informal information evenings in Reddish on the first Tuesday of every month which start at 6pm.
