Local beauty queen eyes big prize

REIGNING ‘Miss Cheshire’ has picked up a new title to add to her collection and secured her place in the prestigious Miss Galaxy 2010 beauty pageant. Local beauty queen Catriona Cameron will be representing the historic village of Daresbury at the grand final on March 27. But she won’t have to travel far for the competition as the glamorous event is being held at the ‘Daresbury Park De Vere Hotel’. Catriona, who works for Warrington based children’s party entertainers, ‘Party Crew’ is delighted with her new title. She says: “I’m honoured to be representing Daresbury. I don’t live there I attend Daresbury All Saints Church every week and I am a Sunday School teacher.

I am also the youngest member of the Daresbury Parochial Council so really understand the dynamic of this beautiful village. “We’ve started a focus group at Daresbury Church to discuss how we can work as a community to reduce the antisocial implications of the event, and also if we can bring a Christian ethos to the festival. I hope that being ‘Miss Galaxy Daresbury’ helps me to positively represent the views of the young people in the village and the surrounding areas.” The winner of Miss Galaxy 2010 will travel to the USA with contestants from all over the world, to compete in the Miss Galaxy international final next summer.

“I would love to win. It really is a unique opportunity and an honour to represent your country in an international competition. I’m thrilled to be a Galaxy Girl but I haven’t got time to be nervous just yet as I’m too busy organising the first ever ‘Vision Support Charity Ball”. Catriona is the patron of the Cheshire-based charity ‘Vision Support’ who provide advice, support and equipment for people coping with sight loss or a visual impairment.

The Charity Ball, to be held on March 6 at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel, will be a glamorous event including a three course meal and live entertainment with all the proceeds from ticket sales going directly to the charity. Tickets are priced at £80, for more information visit www.visionsupport.org.uk
